The system's size is ideal for small spaces -- and you can even mount the satellites on your wall. Controls are right on the front of the speaker. A handy headphone jack is right nearby, and thanks to a microphone built into the right satellite, you can use the VS2421 for internet communications. And there's even a secondary input jack that lets you connect your MP3 or CD player while still linked to your PC.

The Altec Lansing VS2421 speaker system is rated for 28 Watts RMS of total continuous power and a peak power of 56 Watts. The front speakers provide 7 Watts per channel and for its subwoofer, 14 Watts. The system response is from 35Hz to 20 kHz with a signal to noise ration with a 1 kHz input being greater than 80 db. These are not exactly high-end speakers but rather Altec Lansing's value-end speakers for those with a smaller budget in this economy. This entire speaker system is also quite small for those users that may not have a lot of space. In fact, the design of this speaker system even allows it to be wall mounted. The VS2421 system allows the standard audio input from a PC as well as an alternate input source, such as from an Apple iPod or MP3 player.
There is a 2.5" full-range driver in each of the two satellite speakers. The dimensions for these speakers are 89 x 143 x 237 mm. The stands for these speakers simply slide on and off from the base, since they are not needed if going with the wall-mountable option. These speakers are black with a dark red accent around the driver. A single cable protrudes from the back of each of the speakers for connecting to the panel located on the subwoofer box.
The 5.25" subwoofer box measures in at 298 x 143 x 237 mm. This Altec Lansing subwoofer is quite small and thin. Located on the left hand side is the panel for connecting the various cables from this unit. There is the 120V US power cable attached, the connector for the wired remote, and then RCA jacks for the left and right audio channels. Additionally, the bass control knob for the subwoofer is located directly on the unit.
